We begin with the absolute fundamentals by designing a simplemicrostrip patch antenna, ensuring that you fully understand the core physics of radiation and impedance matching. Once a strong foundation is established, we transform the design into aprofessional array configuration. You will learn how to calculatearray factors, managemutual coupling, and estimate the optimal spacing and phase difference needed to achieve the desired radiation pattern from a patch antenna array-without relying entirely on time-consuming simulations.
As the course progresses, you will become familiar with bothseries-fed and parallel-fed phased array antenna networks, understanding the advantages and limitations of each approach. You will then master the theory and calculations required forfeed network design, including how to determine the dimensions of microstrip transmission lines and quarter-wave transformers. After that, you will study one of the most important parts of any feed network:phase shifters-what they are, how they work, and how they are designed. In particular, you will learn about apractical 4-bit phase shifterwith many real-world applications in telecommunications equipment.
Finally, you will discover how changing the phase in the phase shifters allows you to rotate the radiation pattern without any mechanical movement. In other words, you will learn the fullconcept of beam steeringand simulate and analyze the entire process in CST.
